A Generation of Fire

Do not build a home for our bodies
As if it is here we sleep
There is no retreat for we who define
No fading of our absolutes

There is hope here, costly but bright
And we choose not to fear, but to dance
So do not lock us in narrow rooms
We hold light to beat back your night

The first of us was a lover
And we are passionate in kind
And our blood stains the river of years
And our whispers shake the pillars of time

If you are broken - we embrace you
diseased, we welcome you
If you are blind, we bid you see
though it may cost us and we may bleed

Darkness we defy
implacable we decry
the coldness of dead hearts
and the poison of old lies

so may the fire of our souls warm you
guide you to see
but build us no monuments
for we are citizens of no city

Instead, scatter our ashes
under stars that point to rebirth
And let your eyes be opened
find true life and worth

When all the swords have broken
And all the dirges sung through
The mourning silence shall be broken
And restoration ring true
