A Generation of Fire

Do not build a home for our bodies
As if it is here we sleep
There is no retreat for we who define
No fading of our absolutes

There is hope here, costly but bright
And we choose not to fear, but to dance
So do not lock us in narrow rooms
We hold light to beat back your night

The first of us was a lover
And we are passionate in kind
And our blood stains the river of years
And our whispers shake the pillars of time

If you are broken - we embrace you
diseased, we welcome you
If you are blind, we bid you see
though it may cost us and we may bleed

Darkness we defy
implacable we decry
the coldness of dead hearts
and the poison of old lies

so may the fire of our souls warm you
guide you to see
but build us no monuments
for we are citizens of no city

Instead, scatter our ashes
under stars that point to rebirth
And let your eyes be opened
find true life and worth

When all the swords have broken
And all the dirges sung through
The mourning silence shall be broken
And restoration ring true

Jesus

Did you think?
Did you see?
as you vegetate in front of your TV
high definition and everything

Yeah, you got it all
Everything but love
You even got Jesus
That is - your own version

Your Jesus is so smart
Your Jesus is so cool
Your Jesus gets you straight A’s in school
And a fat 401k to boot

Your Jesus is great
Like superman
Always popping up to get you out of a jam
He makes sure no one screws up your plans

Your Jesus looks great, smells nice, is well groomed
Helps your baseball team, banker, and governor
Makes sure they keep kissing up to you
Keeps you from ever looking like a fool

Your Jesus gives you everything
Helps you reach your american dream
Makes you healthy, wealthy, and wise
Keeps you under sunny blue skies

Your Jesus follows you obediently to church
Or the building that bears a name
Where you get your weekly serving of the Word
Or a safe, non-fat version of cheapened grace

Your Jesus helps you reach your dreams
Your Jesus has an ATM
He’s more like a machine
Than the King of Kings

There’s just one problem with your Jesus
And how good he makes you feel
In spite of the supposed benefits
Your Jesus isn’t real

The real Jesus is God who became man
And was really crucified
Who says “if you want life,”
“follow me and die”

I Am Your Peace

I wish I could explain this better than with my poetry, wish I could say it in a way you would understand, but words are my downfall right now.

You have fought so hard
It has cost so much
you feel like you lost your heart
you are in the dust

But I made you from dust
You are my beautiful creation
From dust you have come
and rise again in redemption

Oh, wearing, pained, pining child
Can't you feel my loving smile?
I know you don't have one more mile left in you
So stop – just let me carry you

Everything you gave to me
I am sufficient to keep
Have you lacked anything
when you simply followed me

I am your peace
By my unstained blood
I won you back
By blood and by love

I'm not leaving your side
My oath – I AM most high
I feel every tear a thousand times
hear every unspoken cry

This pain inside of you
all that you've been through
It won't defeat you
because I Am with you

Surer than dawn's glorious lights
Fixed before time was kindled
Clearer than stars hallowed shine
My love for you in creation revealed

No matter what you feel
Give it to me
I am real – as I whisper hear me
I...am...a beloved one...I....AM...your...peace....

Post, the first...

If all goes as planned
As time the days does span
Here many a line shall be penned
For hope and encouragement
Or just plain fun
The end
